We all in the 21st century suffer from constipation at some point in life. If statistics are believed, In America alone approximately 4 million people suffer from constipation each year. It is Because of our eating habits and sedentary lifestyle that we often confront it. If put in simple words it is nothing but fewer bowel movements. A person is said to be constipated when s/he finds it difficult to pass stools or gas. Generally, if a person discharge stool less than three times per week, he is said to be constipated.
People generally hold this perception that constipation is a disease, which is incorrect. Constipation also known as dys-synergic defecation can be detected easily.
Some common symptoms of Constipation or difficult bowel movements are-

Causes of Constipation
There are a number of causes that can be attributed for constipation. Most common of them are primary, secondary. Primary, not life threatening, is most common cause.
Primary causes of Constipation- Insufficient dietary fiber in food, inadequate fluid or improper diet, low physical activity, medication’s side effects, dieting, hypothyroidism, and obstruction by colorectal cancer , going through pregnancy, frequent travel, overdose of laxatives, improper bowel movement , specific diseases like stroke, problems with the colon and rectum, intestinal dysfunction ,
Neurological Disorders Like: multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, chronic idiopathic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, spinal cord injuries,
metabolic disorders: diabetes, uremia, hypocalcaemia, poor glycemic control, hypothyroidism and
endocrine disorders: amyloidosis, lupus, scleroderma are some of the reasons leading to constipation.
Hemorrhoids, anal fissures, rectal prolapse, and fecal impaction are some of the complication that arises out of constipation.
There are some natural remedies that helps in getting rid of constipation like dinking lots of orange mixed with olive oil will definitely help, exercising or walking daily 30 minute on regular basis, aerobic exercises like swimming, jogging and dancing which improves intestinal muscular contractions. Regular adequate exercise, fluid intake, and high fiber diet are some of the solutions. For proper treatment of constipation intake of water and fiber needs to be accelerated. Use of laxatives such as milk of magnesia is also suggested.
